BAR/BAT MITZVAH PREPARATION AND OFFICIATION

PREPARATION

The Hebrew Corner offers the opportunity to those who are not affiliated with a congregation to customize their own Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience.  The well rounded, individualized curriculum aims to help young Jews develop and strengthen their Jewish identity by focusing on Hebrew, Torah, Blessings, Prayers, Mitzvah, Israel and Jewish history.  As The Hebrew Corner is not affiliated with any particular Jewish “movement” we stress a pluralistic approach which presents the varied perspectives within Jewish practice. We will come to your home for private or even semiprivate lessons (double up with a friend or sibling for more fun!).  A curriculum will be designed based on your and your child’s needs. Lesson plans will be prepared weekly. Materials include texts, CD roms, and DVD’s, Our library is filled with the best curricular materials available and we are prepared to incorporate art, crafts and music to fully involve your child.

The Hebrew Corner wants to especially reach out to those children whose special needs have perhaps excluded them from  traditional religious school programs. We have a lot of patience and creativity!!  We would love to work with you to give your child an interactive Jewish education and make this Jewish milestone accessible to all!

SUPPLEMENTARY HEBREW/ BAR  AND BAT MITZVAH TUTORING

Mastering the material for a Bat or Bar Mitzvah can be a stressful challenge.  You nag your child to practice, practice, practice but there are tears and frustration as they try to meet synagogue requirements. The Synagogue Cantor or Bar/t Mitzvah teacher may not be able to give your child all the time she or he needs.  The Hebrew Corner is available for private lessons to give your child extra support and encouragement which will enable them to approach the day with confidence. We will work with your Cantor, Bar / Bat Mitzvah teacher, and/or religious school to ensure coordination and mastery of material.

OFFICIATION

Cantor Avima Rudavsky Darnov and/or Rabbi Allen Darnov are available to help create and officiate at a service at which your child will “become” Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

We can plan the service, create siddurim (prayer books) and provide a Torah scroll.

You provide the space which can be your home, backyard, a community center, or even a rented room in a banquet facility. The service, will include the traditional rubrics of the Jewish prayer tradition, but will consider your particular needs. Our goal is to tailor a service which will be traditional, spiritual, inspirational, and accessible.

CONSIDERING A BAR/BAT MITZVAH IN ISRAEL?

Many families take the opportunity to deeply connect with the Land of Israel by celebrating their child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah in the homeland of the Jewish people. There are reform and conservative rabbis and cantors who are available to conduct your special service in a verity of locations. We can help connect you to these clergy and help you with arrangements and preparation for the service.

Avima Rudavsky Darnov is the tutor for my son, in preparation for Bar Mitzvah in 2008. I chose Avima for this important responsibility based on my perspective of her strengths and style. She has exceeded my expectations.

What was and is important to me is that my son’s tutor be prepared and focused on a timeline, educate my son on the history of our faith and people in an interesting and structured manner, teach him how to read Hebrew and be prepared for the Bar Mitzvah ceremony, be fair minded in a secular way about other religions and the distinction between what is written in the Bible and what may be literally accurate and potentially figuratively accurate, and become proud of his heritage through knowledge.
